For about 2 years now, CAC under CAMA 2020 has made it mandatory for persons registering a school in Nigeria to submit TRCN certificate. In this post, I will walk you through the process of getting TRCN Certificate for CAC company registration in Nigeria.
Before now, schools were admissible under business name registration. Not until in 2023, CAC passed a public notice mandating all registered schools to upgrade to company.
The commission also mandated that all school registrations must be under the umbrella of a company.
Few years after this rule was passed, the commission put a public notice, requiring that before registering a school in Nigeria, one of the participants in the company (either Director or shareholder) must have the TRCN Certificate.
What is a TRCN Certificate?
TRCN simply means Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
It is an educational body under the ministry of education saddled with the responsibility of training, regulating and certifying qualified teachers into the prestigious teaching profession.
For someone to have the TRCN certificate, it means the person is qualified, trained and trusted to deliver teaching anywhere in Nigeria educational setting either as a teacher or a lecturer.

If you are already far in your career, maybe you did not even study education in your university days and your first degree is not education.
If that is your story, and you have been trying to get a TRCN certificate to register a school company with CAC, the best way you can do this is to get anybody with TRCN to become a Director or shareholder in the company with you.
I understand that some persons may not want to allot shares to someone they don’t know or trust who was not part of the plan.
