Statistics has it that there are about 39 million businesses in Nigeria and 99% of that number is made up of SMEs including those that are registered with SMEDAN and CAC and those unregistered. In this article, you will discover the list of companies registered with SMEDAN in Nigeria.

As the economy keeps rising, more and more companies keeps sprouting out. As the number keeps increasing, there is a need to keep and maintain accurate data of these entities.

Just like CAC, SMEDAN also registers SMEs and companies in Nigeria and maintain data of these entities for reference and accountability.

What is SMEDAN?

SMEDAN simply means Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. It is a federal government agency saddled with the responsibility of registering and keeping records of small and medium enterprises in the country.

While CAC registers companies and enforce strict regulatory and statutory compliance like annual returns filing and tax registration, SMEDAN on the other hand offers a seamless registration process with no regulatory compliance.

Functions of SMEDAN in Nigeria

• Policy Formulation and Advocacy: Such as design and execute policies and strategies that create an enabling environment for MSME growth and development, including regulatory reforms.
• Capacity Building: Such as training, skill development, and capacity-building programs help prepare business owners for growth.
• Access to Finance: SMEDAN facilitate, syndicate and implement specialized funding schemes for MSMEs (including low-interest loans and grants).
• Market Access: The agency also enables MSMEs to access local and international markets through market linkages, trade fairs, exhibitions, and other promotional activities.
• Research and Development: They conduct research and development activities to generate data and information relevant to SME development, which informs policy formulation and program implementation.
• Entrepreneurship Promotion: SMEDAN helps to promote entrepreneurship culture and encourage the establishment and growth of MSMEs across various sectors of the economy.
• Coordination and Collaboration: SMEDAN helps to coordinate with other government agencies, development partners, and stakeholders involved in SME development to ensure synergy and effective implementation of programs.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: The agency also helps to monitor and evaluate the impact of its programs and interventions on SMEs, to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

In my recent post on CAC registered company list, I explained how you can check if an entity is registered with CAC using the public search portal and other supporting websites.

SMEDAN on the other hand operates differently.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria does not outrightly and publically publish a full database of SMEs registered under its agency.

However, from the categories of entities on its public portal, you can access different SMEs that have been registered under the agency.

• Visit the SMEDAN entities list on their website
• There you will see a number of registered SMEs
• As at the time of writing this post, there are a total of 17 pages consisting of these registered entities with SMEDAN
• If you don’t find the entity you are looking for, navigate to the top right corner and select from the industry the SMEs fall under
• You can also either select by industry alone or by both industry and location of the SME
• By doing this, you should have access to almost every SME registered with SMEDAN in Nigeria
